In a city with a serial killer stalking its rainy streets and a famous baseball star gone missing – a wealthy socialite and a fiery steelworker arrive at private eye Leon McCreary's doorstep on the same night, after both receiving letters from unknown sources. The resulting investigation reveals a double homicide and a case over two decades in the making. 

 

 The case is followed by:

 Leon: a haunted detective struggling to overcome both the city and his traumatic past, Thomas: an academic sailor mixed up with the wrong crowd, and Dottie: a cabaret singer trying to prove herself on the stage and to the world. In the ensuing city-wide conspiracy: all are subject to the unrelenting corruption and gloom of Glasspier’s sprawling metropolis.
